About DanceMoves

This is the page where I tell you a little about myself...

  Background

Originally from London, I have lived in Bexhill for 20 years, and have a husband, two children, 3 cats and 2 goldfish! I have been dancing all my adult life, but missed out on learning to dance when I was a child - this is why I have a great interest in bringing dance to groups of people of all ages who perhaps have not considered dance before, as well as further encouraging children  and adults who already have discovered a love of dance.

  Lights! Camera! Action!

I have performed all of my life - singing as a child and adult, and then dancing and singing as an adult. Over the years I have run singing groups, danced for local performing groups, been instumental in putting on musical shows and events for various groups and organisations. I am also a professional children's entertainer, through which I have run many  drama workshops and events for children and adults. More recently I have been choreographing  for local societies and currently have several such projects on the go.

  Qualifications...

I am indebted to the East Sussex School of Performing Arts where I first fulfilled (as an adult) my childhood dream and learnt to dance (tap dancing for 14 years and jazz for about 10 years). I joined the Hastings School of Contemporary Dance approximately 6 years ago and there began discovering the art of choreography - an ongoing process for life I think! I have  been taking part in Musical Theatre productions for at least 20 years and so, all things considered, I have had a very wide experience of many different types and styles of dance. In 2005  I qualified as an Associate member of the IDTA (International Dance Teacher's Association), which enables me to teach Freestyle dance , Tap and Musical Theatre . All students can if they wish take their grades in Freestyle, Tap and Musical Theatre.

In addition to DanceMoves, I run the dance and drama group at a local school; choreographing pieces  in almost every style imaginable for  years 5 and 6 children - this certainly keeps me on my toes - so to speak!

I am also a member of the Laban Guild - this is the umberella organisation for practitioners in contemporary dance, and runs workshops and summer schools for teachers of dance.

Finally, safety.....I am a fully qualified First Aider, I am CRB checked and am  insured to teach dance through the IDTA.
